Background on Tez Johnson
College and Amateur Career
Tez Johnson played college football at Troy University from 2021 to 2023, following a prep career at Pinson Valley High School in Alabama. Known for his route-running and contested-catch ability, Johnson earned All-Sun Belt honors and was a consistent target in Troy’s offense. He entered the 2024 NFL Draft and was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round.
Professional Trajectory and Family Context
In the NFL, Johnson has been positioned as a developmental receiver who leverages his physical traits and separation skills. He is the younger brother of quarterback Tyler Johnson, a fourth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. The Johnson surname in football is notable, but Tez is not related to Bo Nix.
Background on Bo Nix

Bo Nix played quarterback at the University of Oregon from 2019 to 2023, taking over as starter in 2023 and leading the Ducks to a top-10 season and a Pac-12 championship game appearance. Known for his improvisational skills and arm talent, Nix was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Professional Trajectory and Position Profile

His skill set as a right-handed quarterback with escapability and deep-ball capability maps to a developmental pathway similar to other first-round QB prospects. He is not biologically related to Tez or Tyler Johnson.

Tez Johnson belongs to the Johnson football family that includes Tyler Johnson, while Bo Nix belongs to the Nix family, which has its own football lineage unrelated to the Johnsons. Clarifying last-name overlap and public assumptions is important: identical or similar surnames do not imply familial connection in this case.

Public speculation sometimes links Tez Johnson and Bo Nix due to shared last-name prominence in 2024 NFL narratives and concurrent draft-ceremony visibility. Both are skill-position players with athletic profiles that draw comparisons. However, their family trees, college development models, and positional roles are distinct. Media coverage of rising stars and surname similarities can inadvertently fuel rumors of a relationship that does not exist.

Verification relies on official team rosters, college sports information, and documented family statements. Tez Johnson’s brother is Tyler Johnson; Bo Nix’s family background is separate per school and pro scouting reports. Cross-referencing draft profiles, NCAA eligibility pages, and club announcements confirms the absence of a blood relation.
