Live-Action Status of Captain Gantu
As of the June 2025 release of the live-action Lilo & Stitch film, Captain Gantu does not appear in the cast. The movie adapts the 2002 animated film and features a predominantly human and alien cast centered on Lilo, Stitch, and Dr. Pleakley. While Gantu is a memorable villain in the animated series and films, he was not included in this live-action reinterpretation.
Who Is Captain Gantu?
Captain Gantu is a blue alien character introduced in Disney’s animated Lilo & Stitch (2002). He serves as the imposing captain of the Galactic Alliance, tasked with capturing illegal experiments. Known for his deep voice, gruff demeanor, and distinctive shark-like design, Gantu became a fan favorite and later appeared in spin-offs, including the television series and subsequent animated sequels.
Gantu in the Original Animated Film
In the 2002 animated movie, Gantu is a primary antagonist who works for Dr. Hämsterviel. He captures Stitch and several other experiments, driving key plot points. His role is expanded in the TV series, where he acts as an antihero in later seasons after drifting from his villainous roots.
Gantu in Animated Sequels and Spin-Offs
Gantz appears in multiple direct-to-video sequels and the TV series, including Stitch! The Movie and the ongoing Lilo & Stitch: The Series. These stories further explore his character arc and evolving relationship with Stitch and the Ohana.
Live-Action Casting Details
The 2025 live-action production reimagines the story with a blend of practical effects and CGI, focusing on the relationship between Lilo and Stitch. While characters like Dr. Pleakley and Nani have been confirmed in new interpretations, Gantu has not been part of the announced casting.

Why Gantu Might Be Missed
Fans often cite Gantu as one of the most compelling elements of the original film. His design and voice performance bring a sense of grand, interstellar stakes. However, the live-action adaptation chose to streamline the story, focusing on Lilo, Stitch, and the Ohana dynamic rather than expanding the galactic conflict.
Future Possibilities
Disney has not announced plans to include Captain Gantu in the live-action universe. Should the film perform strongly and a sequel develop, there may be room to reintroduce Gantu or new alien characters inspired by the original lore.
