Direct answer: there is no fifth Hunger Games movie
The phrase "fifth Hunger Games movie" likely stems from confusion about The Hunger Games series structure. As of 2025, there are four main films in the franchise: The Hunger Games (2012), Catching Fire (2013), Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014), and Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015). No fifth theatrical feature has been announced or released. Related content includes prequels and documentaries, but these are not numbered as "The Hunger Games 5." Understanding the series order and related projects helps clarify search intent and avoid misinformation.
Official Hunger Games film series order
The core saga adapts Suzanne Collins’s novels in a tightly ordered sequence. Each film corresponds to a specific arc in the source material. Beyond the main tetralogy, additional projects exist but do not extend the numbered series. The table below confirms release years and their corresponding movie titles to anchor expectations around what constitutes part of the numbered Hunger Games lineup.
The Hunger Games feature films, in order
| Number | Title | Release Year | Source Material |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Hunger Games | 2012 | The Hunger Games (Book 1) |
| 2 | The Hunger Games: Catching Fire | 2013 | Catching Fire (Book 2) |
| 3 | The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 | 2014 | Mockingjay (Book 3), Part 1 |
| 4 | The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 | 2015 | Mockingjay (Book 3), Part 2 |
Why confusion about a fifth Hunger Games movie arises
Discussion of a fifth Hunger Games movie often mixes the main series with related releases. These include prequels, documentaries, and collector editions that some audiences interpret as continuations of the numbered story. None of these qualify as a fifth Hunger Games narrative feature. Clarifying scope prevents repeated queries and aligns expectations with the actual franchise architecture.
Related Hunger Games projects that are not a fifth movie
- The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) — a prequel film set decades earlier, not numbered as Part 5.
- The Hunger Games: A Complete Compendium — reference books and tie-ins that provide lore, not theatrical sequels.
- Documentaries and making-of specials — behind-the-scenes content, not narrative continuations.
- Short films and promotional content — marketing materials and exclusive vignettes, not mainline entries.
How to identify official Hunger Games movies versus related titles
A straightforward checklist helps distinguish canonical entries from adjacent content. Focus on whether a title advances the core narrative, uses the numbered designation, and appears as part of the primary film release schedule.
Quick checklist to confirm a title is an official Hunger Games movie
- Features Katniss Everdeen or explicitly continues the original trilogy’s timeline.
- Uses subtitles like Part 1 or Part 2 or is labeled as The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, or Mockingjay.
- Released theatrically under the Lionsgate Hunger Foods branding or equivalent studio imprint.
What to expect moving forward
As of 2025, there are no announced plans for a fifth Hunger Games movie. Franchise strategies can evolve with new rights agreements or storytelling interests, but no credible production announcements exist.
